Food at Dark Prospects

Eating in the 1850s

Food is a crucial part of the Dark Prospects experience. Sharing meals with friends (or perhaps enemies) is a major component of character interaction.

Camp Harmon has a set of refrigerators that players are allowed to store food in, though space can be limited. There is a microwave that players can use, as well as a coffee maker. There’s silverware available to use, but players must clean up after themselves.

While Camp Harmon has a full kitchen, permission to use it is limited. Interested players must contact an XO first, and any players using the kitchen must clean up after themselves ASAP. The venue has been very gracious towards us in regards towards kitchen access, and we wish to remain on their good sides. The kitchen area is considered out of game.

We strongly encourage players to work together in groups to come up with communal meals, rather than everyone cooking for themselves. Likewise, several players cook food that can be purchased with in-game currency. (Though they may request donations of real-world money as well.)

We likewise encourage players to consider foods that are vaguely appropriate for the time period, dietary restrictions permitting. (While they may not have had tofu in 1850s California, that won’t stop us from having it.) Removing modern packaging from foods when possible is a must.

Schedule of Meals

  • Friday evening – A player provided soup or chili will be made available for public consumption. (Usually chicken noodle soup.)
  • Saturday morning – Oatmeal, cereal and milk will be made available for public consumption. In addition, several player characters will be selling breakfast foods.
  • Saturday afternoon – Bread, deli meats, cheeses, mustard, lettuce, onion, tomato and mayonnaise will be made available for public consumption.
  • Saturday evening – Players should plan group dinners ahead of time, or make arrangements to prepare food for themselves. Some characters might be selling meals as well.
  • Sunday morning – Players primarily have leftovers.
