Since gold was discovered in California in 1849, people from all over the world have come in search of fortune and glory. Everyone’s got a secret, a reason they’ve left civilization behind to head for the frontier. Yet some people have more to hide than others.
By day, the small town of Haven Lake provides services to nearby prospectors: medicine, food, and relaxation. But at night, the shadows loom long and dark. Secretly, the town is home to vampires and werewolves, wraiths and changelings, spirits and psychics, who have made uneasy alliances to survive the many threats to their survival.
Haven Lake is a broken town, besieged by dangers. But yet, it endures.
Reality
Dark Prospects is a live action role-playing game set in the height of the California Gold Rush. This game uses the classic “World of Darkness” setting, a dark reflection of our world where supernatural beings secretly live among humanity.
Events are held twice a year at Camp Sylvester, in California’s Central Sierra Mountains near Pinecrest Lake.
Over the course of a weekend, players portray vampires, ghosts, werewolves, psychics, changelings, spirits, as well as the regular humans unaware of the monsters in their midst. The main emphasis of the game is immersive roleplaying and character interactions. There are also threats to face, with action playing out in real time, using nerf guns, foam “boffer” weapons, and packets of birdseed.
